Rope Access is a method of working at height using ropes and climbing equipment to undertake a wide array of works such as inspection, repair, installation to name just a few. IRATA and SPRAT are the two major governing bodies which have developed stringent training and assessment programmes respectively, and code of practice (ICOP) to set industry standards. Subsequently rope access is one of the safest methods for working at height, providing the technicians are competent.

The advantage of using rope access methods mainly lies in the safety and speed with which workers can get to or from difficult locations in order to carry out their work, often with minimal impact on other operations, surrounding areas and the environment. Rope Access is cost efficient compared to other access methods such as MEWPs and scaffolding.
